Carpenter's Wheel

Several new blocks have been added to the Missuakee County portion of the Quilt Trail.

Frank Vanderwal and his great-grandfather Cyrus Hunsberger shared a talent for woodworking.  Cyrus made children's furniture among other things.  Frank has a child's rocking chair and his cousin Elsie has a trestle table made for her mother (Cyrus' granddaughter) and uncle to play checkers on.  The Carpenter's Wheel quilt block was featured in the book Underground Railroad Sampler by Eleanor Burns.  The Carpenter's Wheel block also is important to Frank as Jesus was a carpenter.

Frank's wife Ellen made him a quilt from the patterns in the book.
